Alghero airport experiences record passenger figures for August

Posted by: admin on 4th Sep 2007

Statistics released today by Alghero International Airport show the continued trend upwards as the airport experienced a record number of passengers for the month of August 2007.

A total of 160,777 passengers travelled through Alghero airport in August a 23% increase over the same period in 2006. A huge 57% (67,822) of passengers arrived international flights which was an increase of 41% over 2006. Low cost airline Ryanair accounted for 74,557 passengers and the majority of traffic came from the London, Liverpool, Dublin, East Midlands, Stockholm and Düsseldorf routes.

If this level of growth is to continue the airport expansion strategy announced only a couple of week ago will need to be brought forward to keep pace with demand. The recent increase in traffic makes Alghero Airport the fastest growing airport in Italy.
