The Managing Director of Alghero International Airport Umberto Borlotti has presented a short term expansion strategy which has been approved by all of the political shareholders including the Council of Alghero (Comune di Alghero), Sassari province board (Provincia di Sassari) and the Sardinia Region (Regione Sardegna).
The presentation gave a good insight into the expected growth for the Alghero region in terms of passenger traffic expectations. The major part of the airport expansion strategy is to increase the annual passenger capacity from the current 1.3 million (expected by the end of 2007) to 2 million passengers by 2010.
Low cost airline Ryanair also announced a further six new routes out of Alghero. This announcement follows the Madrid route announced only last week. The six new routes will include Palma, Bratislava, Marrakesh, Valencia, Riga and Sarragoza.
Alghero Estates comments “the airport has become a significant factor in the price and availability of real estate in Alghero. Without doubt the new routes will widen the market place for the sale of Alghero property and the increase in next years tourism is sure to boost the already healthy rental market.”
